This Privacy Policy describes how the CAT Sweep Timer Android application
(“the App”) handles information on your device. The App is developed and maintained
by JBTecWiz (Jamie Barnes).
Summary: CAT Sweep Timer does not collect, store, or transmit any personal
data to the developer or any third-party servers. All data the App uses stays on your device,
except for SMS messages you explicitly choose to send via the Service Strike feature.
1. What the App Does
CAT Sweep Timer is a field utility tool designed for cable avoidance tool (CAT) scanning
operations. Its core features are:
Sweep Timer – a configurable countdown timer with audio and vibration alerts.
Log Keeper – records GPS-tagged log entries of scanned locations, stored
locally on the device.
Service Strike – composes and sends a strike-notification SMS via your
device’s SMS service to a number you provide.
2. Permissions Used
The App requests the following Android permissions:
Location – ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION & ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
Used by the Log Keeper feature to record the GPS coordinates of each scanned location.
Coordinates are written only to log entries stored on your device. Location data is never
transmitted to the developer or any remote server by the App.
Send SMS – SEND_SMS
This is a critical physical safety permission. It is used exclusively by the "Service Strike" feature to automatically send an emergency SMS alert in the background if a utility strike occurs.
This ensures that a supervisor is notified immediately, even if the worker is injured, in shock, or unable to manually operate the phone.
The SMS is sent only to the contact number provided by the user in settings, and only after the user confirms a strike event in the app.
The developer does not receive, log, or share the content of any SMS sent.
Read Contacts – READ_CONTACTS
Used solely as a convenience for the user to "Import from Phone Book" when setting their emergency strike contact in the App settings.
This allows you to quickly select a supervisor’s phone number from your contact list.
The App only reads the specific contact you select and does not upload, share, or sync your contact list with any external servers.
Internet – INTERNET
Used solely by the Google Play In-App Update library to check for and download application
updates. No user data is included in these requests. Network activity is governed by
Google’s Play Core privacy policy.
Vibrate – VIBRATE
Used to trigger haptic alerts when the sweep timer reaches zero. No data is involved.
3. Data the Developer Collects
The developer (JBTecWiz / Jamie Barnes) does not collect
any data from users of this App. Specifically:
No analytics or crash-reporting SDK is included.
No advertising SDK is included.
No account creation or login is required.
No data is uploaded to developer-controlled servers.
4. Data Stored on Your Device
The App may write the following data to your device’s local storage:
Log Keeper entries, which may include GPS coordinates, timestamps, and notes you enter.
This data remains on your device under your control.
App preferences and settings (e.g. timer duration), stored via Android’s standard
SharedPreferences API.
If you uninstall the App, this locally stored data is removed by the Android operating system.
If device backup is enabled, Android may back up app data to your Google account according to
Google’s own privacy policy.
5. Third-Party Services
The App integrates only the following Google components:
Google Play In-App Updates (Play Core) – checks for app updates via the
Play Store. Subject to
Google’s Privacy Policy.
Google Play Services – Location – provides GPS coordinates on behalf of the
Log Keeper feature. Subject to
Google’s Privacy Policy.
No other third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics platforms are used.
6. Children’s Privacy
CAT Sweep Timer is designed for professional field workers (18+) and is not directed at
children under the age of 13. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from
children.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be published at this URL with a new
“Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes
acceptance of the updated policy.
