Privacy Policy

1 Introduction

BitShare is a decentralized file-sharing and communication platform. Unlike traditional applications, BitShare operates primarily on a local mesh network using Wi-Fi Direct. Most data remains on your device or is shared directly with peers you connect to, without passing through a central server.

2 Information Collection and Use

2.1 Technical Data for Networking

To facilitate mesh connections, the App uses:

• Device Name: To identify your node to other peers on the mesh.
• User Name: A display name you choose to identify yourself in chats and file transfers.
• IP and MAC Addresses: Required by the Android Wi-Fi Direct (P2P) framework to establish direct connections between devices.

2.2 Content Data

• Shared Files: Files you explicitly choose to share are indexed and made visible to peers on the mesh network.
• Mesh Chat: Messages sent via the chat feature are transmitted directly to peers. If you have the "Vault" enabled, these messages are encrypted locally using your private mesh key.
• Downloads: Files you download from peers are stored locally in your device's internal storage or public download folders.

2.3 On-Device AI

BitShare uses Standard On-Device AI (Gemini Nano via AICore).

• All AI processing happens locally on your device.
• Your prompts and chat history are processed by the system's built-in AI model and are not sent to our servers or third parties.

3 Data Storage and Security

• Decentralization: We do not operate central servers. Your data is not "uploaded" to us.
• Encryption: The "Vault" feature allows you to encrypt your communications and shared content using a local passphrase. We do not have access to your keys or encrypted data.
• Permissions: The App requests permissions for Location (required by Android for Wi-Fi scanning) and Storage. These are used strictly for mesh networking and file management.

4 Data Sharing

Your information is shared only with the peers you explicitly connect to on the mesh network. We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to outside parties.

5 Third-Party Services

BitShare does not integrate third-party tracking or advertising SDKs. It uses standard Android system components (like AICore for AI and WifiP2pManager for networking).

6 User Rights and Controls

• Anonymity: You can change your User Name at any time in the Settings.
• Data Deletion: You can stop sharing folders or delete downloaded history at any time. Since data is local, deleting the App removes all associated local data.
• Trust Settings: You have full control over which peers you "Trust" or connect to.

7 Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our project page.
