Bridgwater is about eleven miles from me — two junctions up the M5, or a straight run on the A38 — so it is a normal part of my week rather than a trip I need persuading to make. The call out is £25, the same as anywhere else I cover, with nothing extra added for the distance.

Bridgwater work splits fairly evenly between households and small businesses, and the two need quite different things. A home user usually wants an honest answer about whether a machine is worth saving. A business usually wants the problem gone with the least possible downtime, which is a different question and often a different fix. I am happy doing either — but it is worth saying which you are when you call, because it changes what I suggest.

For Homes

Slow Computer Rescue

A machine that takes five minutes to become usable is almost always fixable. Usually it is an ageing mechanical hard drive, sometimes it is a decade of accumulated startup clutter. An SSD and a clean install is the standard cure.

Virus & Malware Cleanup

Popups, browser hijacks, fake support warnings and the rest. Removed properly, with a check that nothing was left behind, plus a straight conversation about how it got in.

Data Recovery

Photos and documents from a drive that has stopped being recognised. Success is never guaranteed, but the odds are far better if you stop using the machine immediately and call.

For Small Businesses

Workstation Down

One machine has failed and someone cannot work. I will get them going — repair, temporary swap, or a rebuild with their data intact — rather than leaving a desk empty for a week.

Shared Drives & Printers

The folder everyone used has stopped appearing, or the printer only works from certain desks. Usually a permissions or network discovery problem, and usually fixable in one visit.

Network & Broadband Reliability

Connections that drop, Wi-Fi that does not reach the back office, or a router struggling with more devices than it was ever meant to serve. See networking for the fuller picture.

Out-of-Hours Migrations

Reinstalls, upgrades and machine swaps done evenings or weekends so nobody loses a working day.

Backups That Actually Work

Plenty of small businesses have a backup nobody has tested. I will check yours restores, and set one up properly if it does not.

Remote Support

For software faults, a remote session is often same-day and cheaper than a callout. Worth trying first for anything that is not physically broken.

Questions I Get Asked

Is there a travel charge to Bridgwater?
No extra charge for the distance. Bridgwater is roughly eleven miles up the A38 from Taunton, or two junctions on the M5, so it is a routine trip rather than a special one. The call out is £25, the same as anywhere else I cover, charged whether or not you go ahead with the repair.
Can you help a small business rather than a home user?
Yes, and a fair amount of my Bridgwater work is exactly that. Small offices, shops and trades with somewhere between two and fifteen machines. I can handle a failed workstation, a shared drive that has stopped appearing, a printer nobody can connect to, or a broadband setup that keeps dropping.
Can you work outside business hours so we do not lose a day?
That is usually the sensible option for a working business. I keep evening and weekend availability specifically so that reinstalls, migrations and anything that takes a machine offline can happen when nobody needs it. Weekdays run to 9pm, and weekends from 10am to 6pm.
Do you offer remote support for Bridgwater customers?
For software problems, yes, and it is often faster and cheaper than a visit. If it is a settings issue, an email problem or a piece of software misbehaving, a remote session can frequently sort it the same day without anyone travelling. Anything physically broken needs the machine in front of me.
Do I need a contract?
No. Everything is job by job and you are not tied into anything. If you would rather have someone on call regularly that can be arranged, but nothing obliges you to and there is no monthly fee by default.
How long will a repair take?
Most jobs are one to three working days. For a business I will tell you up front which parts of the work need the machine offline so you can plan around it, and I will do that part out of hours if it helps.
Will we lose any data?
A normal repair does not touch your files. If a job would mean wiping a machine I will tell you before starting and make sure anything needed is copied off first. Recovering data from a drive that has already failed is a separate job with no guarantees, so it is worth calling early rather than carrying on using it.
Can you check our backups actually work?
Yes, and it is worth doing. Plenty of small businesses have a backup nobody has ever tested, which amounts to having no backup at all until the day you find out. I will check yours restores properly, and set one up if it turns out you do not really have one.
